Ratter Titles
Genre - Thriller and a Drama film
Narrative - (A young graduate student is tormented by a stalker who hacks into her electronic devices and monitors her every move.) Emma, a graduate student living alone in New York City, is being watched by a stalker who hacks into the technology that surrounds her - Laptop, Mobil Phone, and other web-connected devices. When the thrill of watching isn't enough, the situation escalates to a dangerous and terrifying level.
Character - In this title sequence you are able to see that the main character is a female, a young female. This means that she is going to be near the school age and is also going to be 'stereotypically' into technology for example; Iphones, computers e.c.t. This means that she would be one of the most favoured people for hackers. There are also other characters that are in throughout the film but they are just extra's who are instrumental to the film but are at the same time. By having all of the other charcters who are the extras, gives the story context as she is a graduate student and by having all of these extras in the film shows the audience that she is in school still. By having all of these other characters also means that they are also at risk from the same situation as her. This also enforces the fact that just because she is being hacked also means that everyone around her is also at rick aswell.
Atmosphere - The atmosphere in this title sequence is very scary and eerie. This reienforces the genre of the film of it being a thriller and a drama. By having the 'scary' type of music makes the audeince feel uncomfortable abou the film and also makes the audeince feel very scared that this could happen to them or anyone they know. By making the audeince feel this is makes them connect with the film content as the whole of the world is now obsessed with smart phones and technology. This also makes the audience feel as though something is about to happen especially as the music is very ambiguous. This makes the audeince feel very on edge and makes the audience feel as though they dont know what is ging to happen as there isnt a clear answer for what is going to happen. This also gives connotations of the film as the music gives hits to what is going to happen in the film for example not knowing who the hacker is and not knowing, even at the end, who he is. The atmosphere is also renforced by the use of the cameras in phones, laptops e.c.t. This makes the atmosphere of the whole film more realistic as they arent using high tech cameras and camera angles. This make the whole film feal as though it is way more realistic compared to high production fils like Fast and Furious. This also helps with the atmosphere of the whole film as it makes the film feel even more scarier because it is a less quiality picture so it is a little destorted so i adds a little bit of ambiguity to the film. Along with this and the music that they have chosen to use it makes the audience feel the full potential of the eerie atmosphere.
Themes - The themes are given away through this title sequenece as there are clear representations of what the film is going to be like, an example of this would be the title that they have used. The titles look like they are typed using the 'normal' text font. This gives connotations of what the film is also going to be like as they are connected to the themes of the film for exmaple; the use of technology and the use of social media is easily represented through the use of titles. This also shows what the type of film is about for this the film is about the risks of technology and how easy it is for someone to hack you through all of the information you release thruogh the internet. Throuhgout this title sequence the most obvious give away to the film themes are the ways that they have chosen to protray the images through the use of little clips of unsuspecting victims doing thier daily activities. This really depicts the risks of people and thier technology. This also shows the whole themes of the film about how she didnt choose to be targeted but she just was. By the use of random clips it also shows that it could be anyone that is targeted not just specifc people.
Setting - The film isn't shot in any specific locations as this film follow the life of a younger female graduate and she is also being hack so this means that they will access her camera at any time they want not just in specific places. Because they haven't just chosen to shoot in a specific place it makes the film a little more realistic. The setting of the film as reinforces how old she is and that she is only a young graduate. The setting also shows that she is a very vulnerable person as she is only young and that younger people are more at risk as they are all on social media and have all of this brand new technology.
Sound - The non-diegetic music makes the audeince feel uneasy and also makes the audience question what is going to happen in the film. The use of tense music also give the audeince a sense that they are being watched and that this could be happening or could happen to them. The non diegetic music helps alot with the portral of the story as it help covey the uneasy fealing of being hacked and how scaring it is. The music also helps convey the genre of the film as this allows the audience to fully understand what the thriller genre connotes. The music corresponds well with the titles and pictures being showed. There is only non diegetic music and no diegetic music. I think this was the best idea as this adds to the tense feeling of not knowing what is going to happen as no one is saying anything to give the storyline away.
Titles - The titles are put in perfectly as they clearly demonstrate what type of film it is and what it is going to be. The titles are in the correct format to reflect the type of film that they are going to be showing. The titles give connotation that the film is going to be in connection with the internet and socail media and how much information we actually spread online to people we dont even know. The title are very good as they arent distorting the representation of theme at all. By the titles being in time with the music it gives a sence of rythem, a type of counting down rythem for exmaple; 1,2,3,4. This gives connnotations to the counting of whos next and the number of victim that have been effected one by one by one. It could also give connotations to the counting down until another victim that is going to be effected. These connotations all make the audience feel uneasy and nervous.
This is going to help us in our final film as I will be able to look at the different types of titles and see what works well for our film and what doesn't. This will be especially helpful as this is the same genre as my film is going to be. Because I have used this film as my main source of inspiration as they have the same type of theme throughout.
