In Depth Analysis of Furious 6

At the start of the film it shows all of the institutional logos and then abruptly cuts to Brian (Paul Walker) and Dom (Vin Diesel) racing to the hospital. This is a very fast scene as there is a lot of fast paced edit in order to make the scene a lot faster and more engaging. This shows the pair competing to be in front and shows just them two on a cliff side road. This is an establishing shot that then cuts to an extreme close of of the pairs cars. this helps the audience understand where the film is taking place and where it starts. A little later in the in the opening sequence there is a high angle shot looking down on the pair as they race through the mountain, this shows the audience that they are alone. This straight away tells the audience about their relationship and shows them as very good friends and are just like brothers. Once they arrive at the hospital is then shows a flash back of the first Fast and Furious movie at 2:00. The reason i think this was included is to show how the Fast and Furious franchise has progressed over the years and how it has changed. This also engages all of the people who have been watching these films ever since the start. throughout the flash back footage there is a lot of quick close up shots, establishing shot and fast Paced edit to show the progression of time. I feel they chose to use close up and extreme close up shots on the parts of the montage that was very important to the plot of the story and instrumental to the story line. All through the montage there is both dietetic and non-dietetic sound that is paired well with the footage to help it progress throughout. By them adding in scenes from the first ever film is also helps the audience to know that's how they have got to where they are now and what has happened through the film progressions. An example of this would be the scene that they include of Letty (Michelle Rodriquez) getting shot. this is one of the major points in the story as later on in the film they find out that she is in fact alive and this is what encourages them to do what they do in this film to get her back. This then continues to the start of the film where is shows the scene of and incident where international criminals have committed another crime. This then shows Vin Deisel in his house when he gets asked for his (and his teams) help with finding out who was behind this and finding out how to catch him. He then is forced into taking up the offer as he is promised that one of his former team members is still alive. this gives clues to the end of the film and also gives purpose to the whole film as they spent the whole time trying to find her and get her back.
